PROGRAM CURRENTLY ON HOLD
The Children
In
Guatemala, clients accept newborn referrals and children currently come home
about eight (8) months of age. On occasion, toddlers also are available. The
children generally are in excellent health and receive excellent foster care
while waiting for adoption to be completed. Guatemalan children appear light to
medium complexioned with dark hair and eyesAdoption Requirements Guatemala has no age requirements for adoptive parents. Both married couples and singles, men or women, may adopt in Guatemala. Those with more than two divorces are evaluated individually. There is no limit on the number of children in the home.
Waiting Time Madison Adoption prides itself on having one of the shortest waiting times for Guatemalan adoption available. Between the time the dossier is sent to Guatemala and the time of the referral is typically within a month. Typically, the wait is a bit longer for girls than it is for boys.
Getting Started... Once you have decided to adopt from Guatemala our staff at Madison Adoption will guide you through every step of the process, be ready to answer your questions, help you complete your paperwork, provide support and assist you with travel arrangements. It is important to begin the home study and INS immigration forms as soon as possible because they generally take two to six months to complete. After Guatemalan authorities receive your dossier, you will be sent a photograph and a brief medical summary of the child. Bringing your baby home is the final step. You may travel to Guatemala or have your child escorted by one of our staff. The adoption can be reaffirmed in the US.
Adoption Fees The total cost of the program is approximately $33,000-$35,000. This is a complete price, including INS fees, home study, documentation and courier fees, visa and Embassy doctor fees, DNA testing, agency and lawyer fees, foster care, and airline and hotel fees for one person.
