The Children

Madison Adoption Associates was accredited by the China Center of Adoption Affairs (CCAA) in May 2005 to help find homes for children that are considered harder to place due to some type of special need. These needs of these children vary, but some of what we have seen include cleft lips and/or cleft palates, limb differences, heart defects, and skin conditions to name a few. If you wish to see a list of our current waiting children, you can apply for membership to the Madison Adoption Associates Waiting Child (MAAWC) Yahoo group.  Please remember that the names and locations of these children are confidential and access to these files is only given to families who are seriously considering adopting a waiting child.

Adoption Requirements

According to the CCAA, the ideal candidates for waiting children include married couples, under 55 years old, financially stable and have access to services to help the child's need.  If you are interested in petitioning for one of our available waiting children, you will need to fill out a family information form and a letter of intent describing your plan of care for that particular child.  If MAA approves you, we will send your request to the CCAA; however, please remember that CCAA makes the ultimate decision on whether or not an adoption will go through. Please contact Sara Lang, our Waiting Child Coordinator, to discuss your individual situation or help guide you through this process. Click here to email Sara.

Waiting Time

The wait time for the Waiting Child program is significantly less than the standard China adoption program. Once you commit to a child, MAA will send the required paperwork to the CCAA on your behalf, including a "Letter of Intent" from the adoptive parent. Once China receives this paperwork, and gives their blessing that your family can precede with the adoption, they issue a pre-approval letter, or PA. Your dossier is then sent to CCAA upon completion, and once the dossier is reviewed, an Acceptance letter (LOA) then Travel approval (TA) is issued. The waiting child program takes about 4-5 months to bring your child home once the dossier is logged into CCAA.

Required Travel

China supports the belief that the adoptive family should be familiar with the child's heritage. Thus, both parents should travel to the country. It is possible for only one parent to travel; however, it could lengthen the foreign stay and complicate the adoption process. Please note that Madison Adoption Associates does not delay your travel for other families to receive their invitation to travel. Parents can travel either individually or in very small groups. This expedites both your departure date and the adoption process while in China. Your total travel time in China is significantly shorter than with most agencies, you may expect your stay in China to be approximately 10 days.

Getting Started...

Once you have decided to adopt from China

Our staff at Madison Adoption will guide you through every step of the process. We help you prepare and complete your dossier, answer your questions, provide support and assist you with your travel arrangements. It is important to begin the home study and the INS immigration forms as soon as possible because they generally take up to six months to complete.

Adoption Fees

The total cost of the program is approximately $18,000. This is a $1000 discount off of our regular China program fee. This is a complete price, including USCIS fees, home study, documentation and courier fees, visa and Embassy doctor fees, the agency fee, China Center for Adoption Affairs fees, hotel and airline fees for one person.
