Bulgaria This program is administered by a Bulgarian psychologist who resides in the US in conjunction with coordinators throughout Bulgaria.
The Children The children available for adoption from Bulgaria will be over one year of age, by national law. Most of the available children will be of gypsy heritage, although some Bulgarian children may also be available. Looks range from Caucasian to darker features. The orphanages in Bulgaria are generally clean and cheerful. The children are separated by age. Infants and toddlers reside in the mother and child orphanages. Children aged three to six live in Pre-School homes. Children over age seven live in boarding schools. Healthy children are generally separated from those with special needs.
Adoption Requirements The age restrictions for adoptions from Bulgaria are very lenient. In general, couples and/or single parents should be no more than 45 years older than the child they plan to adopt. Couples should be married at least two years, and childless couples are no longer preferred. Prospective parents should be in good general health.
Waiting Time Bulgarian adoptions are currently undergoing many changes. Although they previously moved slowly, taking an estimated four to nine months to complete in Bulgaria, referrals are now expected within ninety days, once the paperwork is completed stateside.
Required Travel Prospective parents need to travel to Bulgaria for two brief trips to complete the adoption. The first trip fulfills the general requirement of meeting and interacting with the child. If all goes well, they then formally accept the child upon their return to the United States. For the second trip, parents travel at the end of the process for a period of seven days, and after receiving a US visa, they bring their child home. Should you not want to make the second trip, a representative of our agency can escort your child home.
Getting Started... Our orphanage adoption program is an assignment program whereby waiting children are identified. Information is provided on the children and if accepted, the child is assigned to the waiting parents. Our staff at Madison Adoption will guide you through every step of the process, be ready to answer your questions, help you complete your paperwork, provide support and assist you with travel arrangements.
Adoption Fees The total cost of the program ranges from $20,000 to $23,000. This is a complete price, including INS fees, home study, documentation and courier fees, visa, agency and foreign coordinator fees, and airline and hotel fees for two adults and your new child.
